Supporting Standard In Web Architecture
Thank you for visiting my page. I am a Website Architect specialize in building standard compliant webpages in accordance with the current recommendations and guidelines of the W3C. My documents are written in Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) combined with (CSS) Cascading Style Sheets and Java scripts.
I was inspired and encouraged to learn (HTML) Hyper Text Markup Language in 2002 by Professor Joe Burns while surfing the web. Out of curiosity I clicked on a link entitled Html goodies, and discovered he was teaching Html for free! I found it interesting, so I started learning from Joe Burnes html tutorials and gradually developed my skills for hand coding simple Html documents.
With much dedication and passion, I have progressed from using Joe Burns Html tutorials, to writing valid Xhtml and Css documents. Thank you JB, for all the Free Html Goodies. Using my personal and favorite Html text editor, I designed, built and published this site in march 2003. In 2004 I published The "House Of Dread," my personal entertainment site featuring online radio stations, video, music and musicians resources.
Why build a website that conform to standard? Well, In today's building and manufacturing environment, standard compliance is a must. Almost every thing that we use in our daily lives are built in compliance with some type of guidelines designed to meet specific manufacturing standard requirement. Included in these requirements are safety, usability and product quality.
If you are building a new house or business place, the law requires that the blueprint be inspected, validated and approved before you can proceed with the construction. Those procedures and requirements are also applicable in building and publishing websites on the internet. Although not fully enforced, It is recommended and encouraged as the standard for building Web applications.
Most e-commerce website owners are not web designers or builders, so they know very little about valid markup and building standards. They would expect web designers to know about those things and how to do them. However, that's not always true. Although Xhtml is emphatically recommended as the new standard, allot of webmasters still cannot write valid Xhtml or Css. Some totally disregard it as inadequate and are still building websites using invalid Html markup riddled with errors.
A website built to standard has many benefits, so it is important for you to know if your webmaster can build "standard compliant webpages" using Xhtml and Css. Some webmasters prefer building websites and dynamic web applications using server side scripting language like PHP in combination with Xhtml. Regardless, all hypertext markup language must be checked for conformity with the declared doctype, in order to ascertain and verify it's validity.
The internet is dominated by big name SEO and Website Design companies that do not build and publish valid Xhtml document. Some use ready-made website templates and softwares for generating pre-fab webpages that do not conform to web standards. If quality and website compliance are important to your online business development, then you should get more information on web standards before you decide on hiring a webmaster, or purchasing a website. Inquire and discuss these issues with the potential website developer or company that build and sell websites.
Accessibility is another major requirement and important aspect of web development. By law, anyone publishing information on the internet for public consumption, must make it accessible to all users. This means that all websites should be able to facilitate people with certain disabilities, or provide alternate access to the resources.
Before you buy, or pay someone to build a website, you should inquire if the markup language is valid and conforms to at least level one of website accessibility requirements. Once you understand the standard requirements for building and publishing websites, you will be able to make better decisions and know how to get the best service, product and value for your money.
